Portugal's Inflation Retreats to 3.0% in July as Cheaper Fuel and Food Offset Sticky Core Prices

Portugal's headline inflation slowed to 3.0% in July from 3.2% in June, as fuel and fresh-food prices eased. But core inflation edged up to 2.6%, and the euro area moved the other way, rising to 2.9%.

A household using 10 cubic metres of water a month now pays €34.65 on average for water, sewage and waste — the fifth straight annual rise, ERSAR data show. The bill is set council by council: the gap between the cheapest, Castro Daire at €9.62, and the dearest, Grândola at €51.39, nears €42.

Portugal's Inflation Eased to 3.2% in June as Cheaper Fuel Offset Stubborn Food Prices

The INE confirmed consumer prices rose 3.2% over the year to June, down mainly because energy inflation slowed to 9.1% from 13.1%. Core inflation edged up to 2.5% and unprocessed food stayed high at 5.1%, keeping Portugal's harmonised rate 0.3 points above the euro area.
