The regional health authority has identified norovirus in samples from São Miguel, eight days after we reported the Faial outbreak with its cause still unconfirmed. No evidence links the cases to the public water supply, and there have been no serious hospitalisations.
The Direção-Geral da Saúde gave the count to Lusa on Wednesday: nine cases notified through SINAVE between 1 January and 18 August. Three were imported, three began in Portugal, three are still being traced, and a single cluster of three was the only chain that formed.
