Freedom Day — Dia da Liberdade — One Week Away

Portugal marks the 52nd anniversary of the 1974 Carnation Revolution on Saturday, 25 April. Major events are planned in Lisbon — including the traditional carnation distribution at the Assembleia da República and concerts along Avenida da Liberdade — as well as commemorations in Porto and other cities. The day is a national public holiday. Businesses and most services will be closed; public transport operates on a reduced schedule. If you are planning to travel around Portugal next weekend, book trains and intercity buses in advance.
