Luís Montenegro Convenes the 43rd PSD Congress at Anadia's Velódromo Nacional de Sangalhos — 18 Sectorial Motions Headline Saturday with the Lusofonia Ministry Pitch Sharing the Floor with the Trabalho XXI Post-Mortem
The Partido Social Democrata (PSD) opens its 43rd National Congress in Anadia (Aveiro district) on Saturday, with Luís Montenegro arriving at the Velódromo Nacional de Sangalhos a day after the Trabalho XXI labour-code rewrite was rejected at the Generalidade vote in the Assembleia da República. Eighteen sectorial motions are queued for Saturday's plenary, with decentralização (decentralisation) as the throughline and an ambitious pitch for a Ministério da Lusofonia e Comunidades (Ministry for Lusophony and Portuguese Communities) on the agenda. None of the 18 sectorial proposals carries an open critique of Montenegro, who was renewed three weeks ago with close to 95% in a one-candidate ballot. Sunday closes with the Prime Minister's address — the first major test of how the Government frames its parliamentary defeat.
Manuel Castro Almeida Backs the €900 Million PITCH Innovation Park Bid for the European Competitiveness Fund — Universidade do Porto, Politécnico and the Câmara Stage a Three-Phase Build to a 2029 Opening
The Minister of Economy, Manuel Castro Almeida, told reporters in Porto on Friday that the Government will back the candidacy of PITCH — Porto Innovation and Technology Community Hub — to the next cycle of European funds, a project priced at €900 million across three phases. The build is structured in a €150 million 'Hub Central', a €250 million 'Corporate Zone' and a €500 million 'expansion zone' for startups, anchored by the Universidade do Porto, the Instituto Politécnico do Porto and the Câmara Municipal do Porto. The funding target is the European Competitiveness Fund — a different track from Portugal 2030 or the PRR — with allocation rounds expected to open in 2027 and Phase 1 targeted for operational status by 2029.
Rock in Rio Lisboa Opens Parque Tejo's 11th Edition with a Sold-Out Katy Perry-Charlie Puth-Pedro Sampaio Pop Day — 20-21 and 27-28 June Weekends Roll the Multi-Stage Programme Across an Expanded Cidade do Rock
Rock in Rio Lisboa opens its 11th edition at Parque Tejo on Saturday with both the Saturday and Sunday of the first weekend (20-21 June) confirmed sold out before the gates open at 13:00. Katy Perry returns to the Palco Mundo for the first time since 2018, alongside Charlie Puth, Pedro Sampaio and Calema. The Cidade do Rock site has been enlarged by 25,000 square metres relative to the 2024 edition to absorb the capacity strain. The second weekend (27-28 June) splits into a 'Legends Day' anchored on Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper, Shaggy and 4 Non Blondes on Saturday, and a hip-hop/Afrobeats day with 21 Savage, Central Cee, Rema and Matuê on Sunday. Roberta Medina runs the operator side; the Lisbon Metro Red Line extends until 02:30 across the festival nights.
Sporting Clube de Braga Reels In Gabriel Silva on a Five-Year Deal from Santa Clara — €3.5 Million Up Front, €40 Million Release Clause and a 22 June Carlos Vicens Pré-Época Start
Sporting Clube de Braga (SC Braga) signed the 24-year-old Brazilian forward Gabriel Silva on a five-season contract through 2031, paying Santa Clara €3.5 million for 100% of the economic rights. Santa Clara retains a 20% sell-on, and the buyout clause in Gabriel Silva's contract with SC Braga is set at €40 million. The player was developed at Palmeiras — three trophies under Abel Ferreira — before four seasons at Santa Clara, returning 10 goals and one assist in 37 appearances in 2025-26. He integrates into Carlos Vicens's first SC Braga pré-época on 22 June, the deliberate timing decision by the Minho club's sporting management to give the new striker a full pre-season block.
Webook Takes a Majority Stake in Smartmove and Plants a Lisbon European HQ — 30-Year-Old Sports-Ticketing House Behind Sporting, FC Porto, FPF and Liga Portugal Gains a 17-Million-User Saudi Platform Tie
Saudi Arabian technology group Webook acquired a majority stake in the 30-year-old Lisbon ticketing and fan-management firm Smartmove, anchoring its European operations in Portugal. Smartmove — led by General Director António Precatado — runs the ticketing, membership and loyalty platforms for Sporting Clube de Portugal, Futebol Clube do Porto, the Federação Portuguesa de Futebol and the Liga Portugal de Futebol Profissional. Webook brings 17 million-plus registered users across 180 countries and more than €25 million in ticket bookings processed last year. The combined entity will expand its Lisbon engineering team and develop new AI-powered antibot and antifraud systems. Deal size was not disclosed.
PJ's Unidade Nacional Contraterrorismo Sweeps Addresses in Almada Tied to the Coletivo pela Libertação da Palestina — Suspicions Stack Criminal Association, Incitement to Crime, Apology of Crime, Qualified Damage and Offence to a Legal Person
The Polícia Judiciária's Unidade Nacional Contraterrorismo (UNCT) executed search warrants this week in Almada against members of the Coletivo pela Libertação da Palestina, with the inquiry supervised by the local Departamento de Investigação Criminal. The PJ named five suspected crimes — associação criminosa (criminal association), incitamento ao crime (incitement to crime), apologia pública de crime (public apology of crime), dano qualificado (qualified damage) and ofensa a pessoa coletiva (offence to a legal person). The collective said personal items were seized during the searches and characterised the operation as state repression connected to broader European pressure on pro-Palestinian activism since October 2023. The triggering incident has not been publicly disclosed.
