A fisherman called the GNR before dawn on Sunday to say 20 to 30 people had come ashore at Praia da Foz. Officers found an inflatable, its motor and scattered provisions, and nobody at all. Portugal has recorded seven such landings on the Algarve coast since the end of 2019.

Portugal's Emergency Departments Lost 204 Days to Closures in the First Half of 2026, Against 892 Two Years Earlier

The Executive Board of the National Health Service counted 204 days of full emergency-department closures between January and June, against 636 a year earlier and 892 in 2024. Obstetrics is 90 percent of the total. Only closures lasting a full 24 hours are counted.
