Portugal's Spy Agencies Stop Filing Certified Accounts on Tuesday, and the Report That Replaces Them Must Be Printed on Paper

Decreto-Lei 172/2026 exempts SIS, SIED and the rest of the SIRP from legally certified accounts. In their place comes one classified management report a year, signed by the agency head, delivered on paper to the parliamentary Oversight Council.

ANACOM Fines NOS 350,000 Euros for Rewriting 821,641 Contracts to Force Advertising Into TV Recordings

The regulator says NOS changed 821,641 contracts in one standardised move without giving each subscriber 30 days' written notice and the right to leave free of charge. Vodafone was fined 160,000 euros in July on the same grounds. Both are appealing.

Portugal Is Borrowing 3.9 Billion Euros for Three Frigates, and Neither Ministry Will Name the Interest Bill

The three FREMM EVO ships cost about 3.9 billion euros, funded by an EU SAFE loan. Asked what the interest will be, Defence and Finance each pointed at the other. On the instrument's outer terms the interest alone could run between 1.1 and 3.2 billion.

Three Thousand Nurses Qualify This Autumn, and the SNS Can Only Offer Them Six Months

The 2026 organisational development plans are still unapproved, so SNS units cannot make permanent offers and are limited to six-month contracts. The Order of Nurses calls it a waste and puts the national shortfall at about 14,000. The same delay ran through 2025.

Fuel Does Almost All of It: Portuguese Inflation Returns to 3.3 Percent in August

INE's flash estimate puts August at 3.3 percent, up three tenths on July, and says the acceleration is almost entirely fuel. Core inflation moved a single tenth to 2.7 percent. Energy prices are up 12.2 percent on the year. Definitive data lands on 10 September.

TAP flew 4.2 percent more passengers and sold 4.4 percent more tickets in the first half of 2026, and still lost €99.2 million. Fuel costs rose 18.7 percent. Parpública hands the government its assessment of the Air France-KLM and Lufthansa bids on Tuesday.

Almada Lifts Its Water Alert Tonight After Fifty-Four Days of Overnight Cut-Offs on the Caparica Coast

The alert was declared on 8 July and extended to 31 August. Reservoirs are back above 70 percent, at 72 percent on Sunday. The overnight supply cuts, the garden-watering ban and the closure of beach showers all lapse tonight.
