Three Thousand Nurses Qualify This Autumn, and the SNS Can Only Offer Them Six Months

The 2026 organisational development plans are still unapproved, so SNS units cannot make permanent offers and are limited to six-month contracts. The Order of Nurses calls it a waste and puts the national shortfall at about 14,000. The same delay ran through 2025.

Ovom Care was declared insolvent on 25 August. The law requires six months' notice before a fertility clinic closes; patients, most of them British and most of whom paid up front, got none. Some 220 gametes and embryos are due to move to another Lisbon clinic.

Lisbon and the Tagus Valley Gained 49,000 People Without a Family Doctor in a Year, and the North and Centre Cancelled It Out

The national total barely moved: 1,672,130 people without an assigned family doctor in June, against 1,669,681 a year earlier. Underneath it the south added 66,786 and the north and centre removed 64,337. Loures and Odivelas is the worst unit in the country.

A Bacteria Colony in the Technical Plant Has Kept Portugal's 1485 Thermal Hospital Shut Since 20 August

Caldas da Rainha disclosed on Thursday that pseudomonas was found in the water plant of the Hospital Termal Rainha D. Leonor, billed as the oldest working thermal hospital in the world. Treatments have been suspended for a week, with no reopening date.

Portugal Has Confirmed Nine Measles Cases This Year, and Only One Chain of Transmission Formed Inside the Country

The Direção-Geral da Saúde gave the count to Lusa on Wednesday: nine cases notified through SINAVE between 1 January and 18 August. Three were imported, three began in Portugal, three are still being traced, and a single cluster of three was the only chain that formed.
