Portugal Joins Record International Oil Reserve Release

Portugal will release 10% of its strategic petroleum reserves as part of the IEA's historic 400-million-barrel coordinated drawdown, the largest in the agency's history. Diesel Hits Highest Price of 2026

Diesel climbed to EUR 1.834 per liter and unleaded petrol to EUR 1.779, the highest levels this year. A standard 50-liter diesel tank now costs roughly EUR 91.70, up about EUR 10 from last week. The government's emergency ISP tax discount of EUR 0.0355 per liter on diesel provides only partial relief, and forecasters warn of further increases from March 17.

Fitch Warns Storm Spending Will Push Portugal Into Deficit

Labour Reform Talks Collapse

Negotiations on the Trabalho XXI labour reform broke down without agreement between unions, employer federations, and the government. The UGT and CGTP have organized strike actions. A new meeting between the Minister of Labour, the UGT, and employer confederations is scheduled for Monday. President Seguro has previously indicated he would veto labour legislation lacking union support.

Seguro Announces First Presidencia Aberta in Centro Region

President António José Seguro has announced that his first Presidencia Aberta open tour will take place in the Centro region, continuing his emphasis on Portugal's interior and decentralization. The announcement follows his inaugural tour through Arganil, Guimaraes (European Green Capital 2026), and Porto, where he declared "Portugal is a whole, a country where everyone counts."

Futuralia 2026 Opens in Lisbon
