British travellers heading to Portugal this summer will have significantly more options after EasyJet confirmed three new direct routes connecting Lisbon with Glasgow, Liverpool, and Newcastle. The routes form part of the airline's largest-ever UK flying programme, offering more than 50 million seats to and from the country in 2026.
Once you land, our guide to driving in Portugal covers speed limits, tolls, licence exchange, and everything you need to get behind the wheel.
Getting around Lisbon is also set to improve — the Metro Circular Line opens two new stations this quarter.
The New Routes at a Glance
EasyJet will operate all three services twice weekly:
- Lisbon to Glasgow — launching March 29, 2026, operating Wednesdays and Sundays
- Lisbon to Liverpool — launching March 31, 2026, operating Tuesdays and Saturdays
- Lisbon to Newcastle — launching June 22, 2026, operating Mondays and Fridays
The Newcastle connection is part of a broader expansion at the airport, where EasyJet is opening a three-aircraft base in March 2026. The new base has enabled 14 new routes from Newcastle this year, bringing the airline's total network from the airport to 22 destinations — including Faro, which was already on the schedule.
What It Means for UK–Portugal Connectivity
Until now, direct flights from these three cities to Lisbon were limited or nonexistent. British residents in Scotland, the North West, and the North East of England who wanted to fly to Lisbon typically had to route through London or Manchester, adding cost and travel time.
The new routes change that equation. A twice-weekly service is enough for long-weekend city breaks — and EasyJet has specifically timed the Monday/Friday Newcastle flights to serve that market. Package holidays through EasyJet Holidays are also available, starting from £199 per person for three nights in Lisbon.
Kevin Doyle, EasyJet's UK Country Manager, said the expansion reflects growing demand: "We're excited to be launching new routes and packages to popular destinations, providing customers with even more choice and connectivity, whether they're looking for a cultural city getaway or relaxing beach break."
A Broader Pattern of UK–Portugal Air Growth
The expansion comes against a backdrop of booming UK–Portugal air traffic. Portugal recorded a 3.8 per cent increase in international arrivals in January 2026, with overnight stays up 5.6 per cent to 3.7 million nights. British tourists remain one of the largest source markets, particularly for the Algarve and Lisbon.
Ryanair, Wizz Air, and TAP Air Portugal all increased capacity on UK–Portugal routes in 2025. EasyJet's move into Glasgow, Liverpool, and Newcastle fills gaps in the low-cost carrier network that competitors had left open.
For the estimated 50,000 British citizens resident in Portugal and the larger community of regular visitors, the additional connectivity is welcome news — particularly as the new EU Entry/Exit System launches on April 10, which may increase processing times at border control and make flight scheduling more important than ever.
Tickets and Booking
All three routes are now on sale at easyjet.com and via the EasyJet mobile app. Fares start from £33.99 one way. Package holidays with EasyJet Holidays include flights, hotel, and 23kg luggage.
